President’s Message May

May 10, 2023 Monthly meeting at Bourbon Kitchen at 6 p.m.

Our volunteering event at Matthew 25 Ministries was a huge success with 40+ Alumni and fans participating. Special thanks to Georgette Wilson for chairing this annual event.

The Wine Tour of the World and Power & Beauty of Olive Oils and Balsamic Vinegars event is scheduled for Thursday, May 25 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Spicy Olive.  What a tremendous response! It sold out in 2 days. We plan a Wine Basket raffle with proceeds going into our Endowment fund. Betsy Grimes has put together a great event.

We will be electing Officers and Committee Chairs for 2023-24 at our upcoming May 10 meeting. We have several positions and Co-positions that are in need.  Our biggest need is for someone to automate our dues/membership/treasurer position.  Please reach out if you can help with this important position.

Steve Hannon has chaired a fundraising event for our scholarship endowment.  We will be working at Paycor Stadium (previously Paul Brown Stadium) at the Taylor Swift concert on Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1. We will be working as bag checkers. We will be trained and provided a uniform shirt. Workers need to be at least 18 years old. We need a minimum of 10 per night and the club will be paid $15 per hour for each volunteer for the 7-hour shift. Sign up by email – steve.hannon2@gmail.com or for more information. Deadline is June 22.

Dave Stone has chaired and coordinated our Away Football Bus Trip to Rutgers on Nov 4 with Reynolds Travel.  Watch for more details and the link to get signed up for this 3-night trip soon.

We just received word from the OSU Athletic ticket office on purchasing Group Home Football Tickets. We will decide which game to attend at our May meeting. Watch for more information in early June to reserve your tickets.

Kevin Strait is coordinating an OSU Campus Tour in August to see the new Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory. More details to follow.

Monica & Marla Marsh along with Buckeye Marv and Karen Stotz will chair our Annual Summer Scholarship Recognition Picnic at Warren County Armco Park Shelter 9. The club will provide the meat and drinks (beer included) and everyone will be invited to bring a covered dish to pass. Join us for cornhole, cards and Buckeye fellowship on July 16 starting at 4 with dinner at 5 p.m.

Ohio State Day at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is Saturday, June 3 8-1 p.m. or stay until the park closes at 6 p.m.  You can email advancementevents@osu.edu or call 800-762-5646. Advanced registration is required.

Dave Beeman and I had the pleasure of meeting our new OSU liaison, Patti Connors.  Patti will replace Daniel Rodriguez going forward.  We hope to have Patti join us in person as soon as she can.

Lots of great things are happening with our club and we invite you to join us as we strive to give our local alumni and fans in the surrounding area a chance to keep the Buckeye spirit alive. If you would like to volunteer or suggest a new activity for our members, reach out to me at ButlerCoClub@osu.edu.

There are usually no monthly meetings June – August unless we have pressing needs. Please look for emails and our monthly newsletter for details on all of the upcoming events. Hope to see you soon.

Make sure you follow us on our website and Facebook page.
